Mr. Michael McCarthy began his government service career in 2004 after previously serving 19 years as a Field Artillery Officer in the United States Army.
Mr. McCarthy assumed his position as the Deputy to the Commanding General, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, in January of 2018. His previous positions include Program Manager, which entailed the design, management and supervision of the Simulations Facilities in support of the Future Force Integration Directorate, and Director of Operations for the Brigade Modernization Command, Mission Command Capabilities Division, at Fort Bliss, Texas.
From 2014 to 2016 Mr. McCarthy was selected for and completed the Defense Senior Leader Development Program and graduated from the United States Air Force War College. He was selected as the first government employee to participate in the prestigious and academically challenging United States Air Force War College Grand Strategy Program. Mr. McCarthy completed and holds a Master of Arts in National Security Planning and Theory and received a six-month developmental assignment as a Strategic Analyst at the Center for Army Analysis, Strategic Initiatives Group, Washington DC, where he led development and publication of their first-ever enduring organizational strategy, vision and goals document. In 2016 Mr. McCarthy served as Division Chief for the LandWarNet Division supporting the Army and Joint concepts, and the Army 2025 and Beyond Campaign for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Army Capabilities Integration Center, Fort Eustis, Virginia.
In addition to the Master of Arts in National Security and Grand Strategy, Mr. McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science in English from the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington, Virginia and a Master of Science in Military Operations, Plans and Training from the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, attained through the Advanced Military Studies Program. He has also completed the Strategy Foundation Course from the United States War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Mr. McCarthy has numerous awards and has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow from the Naval Postgraduate School.
